Electrical Isolation Materials

We supply a comprehensive range of electrically isolating films to suit the demands of various industries and applications. Our process takes a holistic approach and begins with a detailed evaluation of the electrical isolation requirements you face. Whether you need a suite of materials or individual components, we take the time to understand your requirements to ensure that the components we supply are compatible, cost-efficient and suitable for the application. These can range from traditional adhesive backed Kapton tape to standalone shapes made from Mylar or Nomex, or NKN laminate.

Mylar Polyester Film

Our polyester films are manufactured by Dupont and cover thicknesses from 50um to 500um. Polyester films are limited to an upper temperature of 150°C. The Mylar sheets can be converted to shapes and custom die cut to fit your application.

Polycarbonate Film

A useful alternative to polyester, especially where chemical incompatibility with polyester is a problem. For instance, some varnishes may have an aggressive reaction to polyester, whilst polycarbonate remains unaffected.

Kapton® Polyimide films

DuPont™ Kapton® polyimide films have set the industry standard for over 45 years in high performance, reliability and durability. There are various grades available, the most common are:

Kapton® HN

Electrically insulating

Kapton® MT

Electrically insulating and thermally conductive

Kapton® MT+

Electrically insulating with enhanced thermal conduction
Nomex®

Well known for it's durability and superior characteristics, Nomex is a familiar brand in the world of transformers, motors and generators. It has excellent thermal stability - even at 200°C there is little or no effect on the electrical and mechanical properties. The material is strong and resilient with good resistance to tearing and abrasion. Nomex will withstand short term electrical stresses of up to 40kV/mm. It is unaffected by most solvents and is resistant to alkalis and acids. The product does not melt or support combustion.

Nomex® Laminates

The combination of Kapton® film and Nomex® paper provides an excellent advantage of mechanical strength, dielectric and temperature resistance for electrical insulation. This makes it ideal for all types of electrical machines, including motors, KERS and generators where it can be used for slot liners, wedges and phase insulation. It has excellent thermal stability, including Class H — even at 220°C there is little or no effect on the electrical and mechanical properties.

Characteristics & Performance:

  • Will withstand short term electrical stresses of up to 25kV/mm
  • Good tensile and tear strength
  • The product does not melt or support combustion
