When you’ve built your electronics, and taken every precaution to improve it’s longevity – from thermal pads and pastes to EMC screening and heatsinks/vapour chambers, it’s often necessary to protect it from the environment. This could be weatherproofing or improving the robustness against shock and vibration. We stock well known polyurethane and silicone foams, as well as nitrile rubber and EPDM products that are very well known in the industry.
Silicone Foams
Our range of Silicone foams is underpinned by Rogers Corporation, noted for their high specification range of flame retardant conformable engineered materials. These have excellent low compression set and recovery characteristics, allowing engineers to specify the materials with confidence. The silicone foams are listed under FDA regulation 177.2600 and many are suitable for food contact applications. All are available with/without adhesive backing.
Polyurethane Foams
Poron™ is a high performance polyurethane foam manufactured by Rogers, offering characteristics such as excellent compression-set resistance, low outgassing and non-fogging. It is flame retardant, non-corrosive to metal and will not become brittle and crumble.
Solid Silicone Rubber
Silicone can be used in a number of applications where stability at temperatures of up to 230°C is necessary. Some grades of silicone rubber can withstand temperatures of up to 230°C. Not only is silicone excellent in extreme heat but it is also great as a sterile elastomer; it is often used in the food and beverage industry for tubing, seals and gaskets on food machinery. Silicone is seen as a superior elastomer to EPDM as a result of its superior physical properties and generally providing longer life in service.
Fluorosilicone
Supplied in its raw form as a solid sheet, fluorosilicone offers enhanced resistance to harsh chemicals and volatile fuels. It also has good temperature resistance and a low compression set.
- Can be cut to size and shape required for gasket and anti vibration pads
- Compliant with MIL-R-25988 Type 2 Class 1 GD60 and AMS3325
- Available in a distinctive blue colour, with 60 shore A hardness
Medical Applications
We also offer platinum cured, talc free fluorosilicone for applications where skin contact is a requirement.
EPDM Foam
EPDM foam is available in medium to high density closed cell foam. The material has good ageing, ozone and UV resistance. Suitable for gasket, cushioning and anti-vibration applications.
EPDM Solid Rubber
EPDM, or Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer, is a synthetic rubber used in a range of applications. EPDM is used most commonly used in the automotive industries for various seals due to its excellent resistance to environmental factors such as Ozone, UV and general weathering
Typical applications of EPDM include electrical gaskets. However, consideration should be given to operating temperatures as EPDM is limited to maximum temperatures of 130°C.
